Value Partners Investment Counsel (VPIC) is a boutique private investment counselor wholly owned by Canada Life.

Reporting to the Lead Investment Counsellor, the primary focus of the Investment Counsellor is to serve as a trusted advisor to high-net-worth families and advisors who have referred clients.
The Investment Counsellor is skilled at developing long-term relationships based on well-researched professional advice, excellent service, and a genuine interest in clients' well-being.

The role involves providing a holistic investment and wealth planning experience by building and managing tailored portfolios, determining appropriate asset mixes, allocations, and investment policies based on guidance from the Asset Allocation Committee.
Additionally, the Investment Counsellor conducts economic, market, and portfolio performance reviews with clients regularly and ensures ongoing communication regarding the client's overall financial picture.

Responsibilities

Deliver a comprehensive investment and wealth planning experience by assessing a client's financial situation, life experience, and long-term objectives to establish an Investment Policy Statement (IPS) that facilitates success.
Recommend portfolio improvements, considering all investment options, Asset Allocation Committee guidance, and macroeconomic conditions.
Design and oversee transition plans to shift clients from existing to recommended portfolios, considering current holdings and tax implications.
Collaborate with Client Service, Operations, Trading, and Compliance teams to ensure efficient onboarding, transition execution, and implementation of portfolio recommendations.

Portfolio Management and Investment Analysis

Monitor and manage client portfolios, rebalance, and adjust accounts and allocations as needed, based on client considerations and VPIC models.
- Maintain accurate client profiles, working with Compliance, Client Service, and Operations teams to keep KYC, AML, and meeting notes current.
- Provide analysis and advice on non-model securities and ongoing coverage.
Participate in quarterly Asset Allocation Committee meetings, contributing well-researched opinions to help define outlooks, monitor portfolios, and evaluate new investment options.

Client and Advisor Relationship Management & Business Development

Meet regularly with clients for portfolio reviews and updates aligned with VPIC's service philosophy.
Work with colleagues and referral partners to provide second opinions, craft proposals, and present investment strategies.
Conduct review meetings with referral partners to ensure service standards are met.
Assist in cultivating and expanding VPIC's client and referral networks.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

University degree in Finance, Economics, or related field
At least one of the following in good standing:
CFA, CIM, or CBV
Licensed or eligible for licensing as an AAR or AR with the Manitoba Securities Commission immediately
Experience working with high-net-worth clients and/or financial planning is advantageous

Technical Knowledge

Deep understanding of asset classes, investment vehicles, portfolio management, and emerging trends
Knowledge of risk, trading, and portfolio management systems and tools
Ability to learn new technologies quickly
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
