Work Arrangements: Up to a maximum of 20 hours/week.

The Role: The Student Research Assistant, FEMMSS8 will provide support to the supervisor in monitoring a Discord Server for two weeks and offer support during a two-day workshop on feminist theory and technology.

Responsibilities

Set up and monitor a Discord server for workshop attendees and participants to ask questions, make connections, and collaborate on material before and for a week after the workshop.
Assist the supervisor in answering workshop attendees' emails one week prior to and during the two-day workshop.
Provide support to monitor a Zoom room over the course of a two-day workshop, keeping an eye on the chat, answering questions as applicable, and helping with any troubleshooting if there are technical difficulties.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

An interest in Technology and Feminist Thought.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Ability to work independently.
Experience setting up and moderating a Discord server.
Familiarity with Zoom is an asset, but not required.

Eligibility Criteria

Domestic students must meet ONE of the following criteria:

Enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR
Enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term; OR
Enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in British Columbia throughout the work term; OR
Enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term.

International students must meet ONE of the following criteria:

Enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year; OR
International student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that allows for employment.

An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.
