Zurich is seeking a talented and experienced Life Sciences Underwriter to enhance our Middle Market team. This hybrid position is available and can include a remote option for Texas-based candidates outside the Houston or DFW metro areas.
As a crucial part of Zurich North America's Middle Markets segment, we aim to attract exceptional customer advocates with a passion for sales, strong technical underwriting skills, and a solution-oriented mindset. You'll be instrumental in managing complex new and renewal life science business, serving as a Subject Matter Expert in this field.

Key Responsibilities:
Act as a Life Science industry advocate, enhancing customer experience by understanding their needs and providing optimal insurance solutions.
Thoroughly evaluate risks, conduct exposure assessment, and establish pricing strategies.
Utilize risk data and insights to inform decisions effectively during the sales process.
Help refine and improve life science underwriting guidelines.
Identify gaps in customer programs and align Zurich's offerings to ensure contract certainty.
Showcase strong analytical skills while acting as a consultative advisor.
Manage new and renewal underwriting for Life Science risks.
Perform comprehensive coverage analyses and communicate exposure details effectively.
Engage in market-facing activities within the expanding Middle Markets division.
Collaborate across departments to enhance understanding of life science exposures and market opportunities.
Oversee adherence to underwriting guidelines, insurance laws, and regulations.
Develop and sustain strong relationships with agencies and brokers.
Handle complex assignments effectively within established limits.
Basic Qualifications:
Senior Level:
High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
Alternatively, 10 years of Claims or Underwriting Support experience.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3 years of Underwriting experience.
3 years with an Associate Degree in Claims or Underwriting Support plus 8 years of experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Experience managing tight timelines for new and renewal quotes.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
AVP Level:
High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 7 years in Underwriting or Market Facing areas.
Alternatively, 14 years in Claims or Underwriting Support areas.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5 years of Underwriting experience.
5 years with an Associate Degree in Claims or Underwriting Support plus 12 years of experience.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree.
Advanced knowledge of related business lines.
Strong understanding of underwriting philosophy and regulations.
Expertise in risk assessment.
Collaboration in a team-driven environment.
Strong presentation abilities.
Compensation and Benefits:
Our competitive salary range for this position is $120,000 - $222,000. The proposed salary for Senior Underwriters is $120,000 - $170,000, with a 15% short-term incentive eligibility. For AVP roles, the range is $172,000 - $222,000, with a 20% incentive potential.
