The Full Stack Developer will join a team that leads the delivery of the products and platforms that enable OMERS Global Investments (GI) to analyze opportunities, action investment decisions and optimize the OMERS investment portfolio. The Data & Technology Software Engineering team supports all investment teams including Capital Markets, Infrastructure, Private Equity, Growth Equity and Ventures, and in close collaboration with Finance, Risk & Compliance teams.

As a key member of the Data & Technology Software Engineering team, the Full Stack Developer is instrumental in designing solutions, championing industry best practices and delivering high quality software to support investment decision making.

The Full Stack Developer will operationalize and maintain software applications deployed to the OMERS investment entities and cultivate a business relationship that assists in meeting business demands. The individual must also support and collaborate with product managers, delivery managers, business analysts and investment professionals and engage in technical support, research and integration as part of 1 or more project team(s).

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

Technical

• Design, develop, and enhance end-to-end features - build responsive front-end UIs with HTML/CSS and modern JavaScript framework like React and implement back-end APIs and services using Python.

• Create and optimize data pipelines to ingest, process, and analyze data using Python libraries like pandas and NumPy as needed.

• Leverage Azure cloud services (such as Azure Functions, Web Apps, Logic Apps, etc. ) to deploy and orchestrate components, building scalable and secure cloud-based solutions.

• Operationalize and maintain existing software applications and data pipelines by monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing improvements, ensuring high availability and reliability of our systems.

• Collaborate closely with product managers, data analysts, and fellow engineers to gather requirements, define solutions, and deliver features in an Agile development environment.

• Follow best practices in code quality, security, and documentation - conduct code reviews, write unit/integration tests, and ensure maintainable code throughout the development lifecycle.

• Deploy software applications to achieve a high level of reliability, scalability and security.

Qualifications:

Professional

• Experience: 3 to 5 years solving sophisticated technical projects utilizing Python, React and Microsoft Azure services or equivalent work experience. Financial industry application is preferred.

• A bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering field of study or equivalent work experience.

• Industry Knowledge: Previous experience in developing and deploying operational procedures, tuning guides and best practices documentation.

• Relationship Building: Consistent track record of building deep technical relationships. Experience in aligning expectations across various partners.

• Problem-Solving: The ability to troubleshoot failures and resolve technical issues with minimal direction.

• Teamwork: Motivated and keen to work in a collaborative environment with a focus on team success.

Technical

• Experience in JavaScript (Libraries such as React, NodeJS, Angular) along with HTML, CSS, and other related technologies to develop functional and appealing user interfaces.

• Proficiency in Python and its libraries (pandas, NumPy) for data analysis and manipulation, and SQL for database management and querying.

• Enterprise-scale technical experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures, architecture designs, and technology management.

• Breadth of technical experience and knowledge across the Azure Platform, with depth / Subject Matter Expertise in three or more of the following resources:

  • Azure Functions and/or Web Apps using Python.

  • Azure Logic Apps.

  • Front-end development (ex: Azure Static Web Apps).

  • Azure SQL Database.

  • Azure AI Search.

  • Azure Data Factory.

• Proven experience automating CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or equivalent work experience.

• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes is considered an asset.

• Experience designing database schema, tables and stored procedures.

• Experience in integrating UI with server-side logic, understanding concepts like RESTful APIs, JSON, and promise for asynchronous processing.

• Design and implement the look, layout, and features of a website or application to enhance user experience. This may include conducting user research, creating wireframes and prototypes, and testing designs to ensure usability.

• Proficiency in version control systems like Git.
