WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Natural Forces is seeking a Project Engineer as an addition to our Canadian Construction Team.
This is a full-time position based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with on-site project assignments across Canada during project construction periods.
Consideration may be given to remote-office work locations to start.

The initial assignment will support the Nain Wind Micro-Grid Project (NWMG), wind and battery storage clean energy development being constructed in the Northern Labrador community of Nain, Newfoundland and Labrador, starting in the Summer of 2025.

Reporting to the NWMG Project Manager, the primary responsibilities of this role will be:

• Support project management of pre-construction, construction, testing and commissioning of the NWMG project.
• Work to understand the broad principals of renewable, electrical and mechanical engineering.
• Support the management of active construction projects by providing safe sites, ensuring projects are built in accordance with schedules and budgets.

KEY TASKS/DUTIES

• Uphold all aspects of Natural Forces Health, Safety & Environment policies, practices and programs.
• Develop an understanding of the commercial structures of proposed projects including relationships with project partners, preferred suppliers, and financial lenders.
• Assist in project preparation including tender documents, project planning documents, contracts development, and negotiations of equipment supply and service contracts, including maintenance and warranty terms.
• Monitor project design and construction progress through weekly reporting, project schedule updates, and KPI's developed for the project.
• Coordinate engineering and construction interfaces to ensure overall project progress takes pro-active measures to deal with issues and prioritize work.
• Participate in engineering design reviews.
• Raise and follow-through on technical inquiries through written request for information (RFI) process.
• Maintain required site management duties during Site Manager's absence.
• Assist Site Manager to coordinate all stages of construction work to ensure safety, cost, quality and schedules are maintained.
  Maintain daily field notes.
• Participate in community at stakeholder engagement events, including meeting preparations and delivering project presentations.
• Assist Project Manager with contract change management.
• Liaise with local utilities, including attendance at meetings when required.
• Other duties from time to time, as assigned by the Project Manager or Vice President of Construction.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 2+ years experience, post-secondary degree with a background in civil, electrical, mechanical, or environmental engineering or a related discipline.
• Construction related experience is considered an asset.
• Energy sector related experience is considered an asset.
• Basic knowledge of construction methods including tools, equipment, and processed used.
• Technical aptitude to understand technical specifications and engineering drawings.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc).

SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Passionate about safety, the environment, construction and renewable energy.
• Willingness to travel to and from remote work areas via air travel.
• Comfortable working long hours on a remote construction site.
• Strong communicator, verbal and written.
• Team player, capable of respectfully working with people in a variety of roles and cultural backgrounds on the project site.
• Ability to manage priorities and handle the demands of condensed season remote construction.
• Should be willing and able to climb wind turbines.
• Must have a valid Canadian-issued passenger vehicle driver's license.
