THE ROLE

A key contributor managing accounting operations for a specific division, responsible for month-end close, financial reporting, and process standardization projects.

• Operations Accounting (55%)
• Management Reporting and Operations Support (30%)
• Quarterly Business Reviews - Presentation Prep (15%)

THE TASKS

Operations Accounting

• Lead the month-end close process within a tight 3-4 day timeline
• Post and review 80+ standard journal entries per month
• Prepare and validate complex ad-hoc entries as needed
• Document and standardize journal entry processes
• Collaborate with team members to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Oversee all balance sheet reconciliations with focus on inventory and prepaid accounts
• Identify, investigate, and resolve complex reconciliation issues
• Implement automation tools for reconciliation processes
• Document and standardize reconciliation procedures
• Train and supervise intermediate accountant on reconciliation tasks
• Manage AP batch processing and documentation workflows
• Perform regular online review of sundry invoices and transactions to ensure accuracy

Management Reporting

• Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements for division stakeholders
• Create KPI reports and analysis for operational teams
• Extract and analyze data from financial and business intelligence platforms
• Develop and maintain standardized reporting templates
• Provide insights and commentary on financial results to management
• Identify trends and opportunities for business improvement

Quarterly Business Reviews - Presentation Prep

• Develop comprehensive quarterly financial presentation materials
• Prepare variance analysis and commentary for executive reviews
• Support division leadership with data-driven decision making
• Represent the division for all audit requirements, both external & internal

EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE

By Month 1

• Gain understanding of the company's organizational structure and key stakeholders
• Learn about division-specific accounting operations and reporting requirements
• Document existing processes and identify areas for questions and clarification

By Month 3

• Take ownership of the month-end close process for the division
• Begin posting standard journal entries with guidance
• Participate in preparing financial statements and reports

By Month 6

• Independently manage the full month-end close process
• Handle complex reconciliations and resolve issues proactively
• Present financial information to stakeholders confidently

By Month 12

• Lead process improvement initiatives within the division
• Take full ownership of all financial reporting and analysis
• Position yourself for potential growth opportunities within the finance team

THE SKILL SET

• CPA designation (or actively pursuing) with at least 6-7 years of accounting experience
• Strong Excel skills including advanced functions and pivot tables
• Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
