Qulliq Energy Corporation

Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is entrusted to provide safe, reliable power to all customers in Nunavut. Owned by the Government of Nunavut and operated as an arms-length territorial corporation, QEC is the sole provider of electricity and district heating in Nunavut.

Manager, Alternative & Renewable Energy (QEC-25-008)

Iqaluit, Nunavut

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Manager, Alternative & Renewable Energy (ARE) is responsible for the research, planning, and managing ARE initiatives and programs. The position supports the execution of ARE projects by providing engineering support in areas such as planning, design, technical analysis, and conducting research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversee ARE staff and coordinate with other jurisdictions/utilities for developing ARE plan and program for the Corporation to meet QEC/GN mandate for reducing dependency on fossil fuel.
2. Manage NMP (Net Metering Program), CIPP (Commercial and Institutional Power Producer), and IPP (Independent Power Producer) program.
3. Provide recommendations for higher management regarding ARE initiatives.
4. Respond to requests for information from the media re:
   renewable energy initiatives, etc.
5. Keep track of all projects and resources, as well as reporting internally and externally.
6. Closely work with Finance and Operations to ensure program effectiveness and to improve efficiency and liaison with Federal and Territorial Government agencies.
7. Oversee design and development of new and existing ARE initiatives including stamping designs.
8. Prepare Requests for Tender (RFT) / Request for Proposal (RFP) for ARE projects and ensures effective projects execution.
9. Any other ad hoc duties as required.

Required Qualifications Include:

1. Bachelor's degree in electrical/mechanical engineering.
2. Experience in ARE project management in Utility sector.
3. Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng), with immediate eligibility for registration with NAPEG.
4. Seven years of ARE project management experience in a utility.
5. Two years of experience in the supervision and development of staff.

Assets:

1. Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
2. Experience in full scope project management, from inception to commissioning an asset.
3. Knowledge of power system analysis software such as ETAP, HOMER, RETScreen are assets.
4. Experience in a utility environment is an asset.

A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered.

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $149,128.02 to $179,392.80 and a northern living allowance of $16,008.00 per annum. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined-benefit pension program. Accommodation is not guaranteed at this point. Will be allocated when available. This position is not included in the Nunavut Employee's Union.

Preference will be given to Nunavut Inuit.
