Dedicated to the treatment of eating disorders in adolescents and young adults, EHN Sandstone Recovery Centre provides a safe place to work toward recovery.
We offer around-the-clock support from our experienced and compassionate staff, including physicians, nurses, counsellors, support staff, and registered dietitians.
Individualized care plans guide patients through each step of the recovery process.
Weekly individual and family therapy, plus daily group therapy sessions are an essential part of treatment.

Position Summary :

As part of an interdisciplinary team, the Medical Director will provide a comprehensive assessment of clients with mental health and eating disorder related issues.
The Medical Director will also lead and mentor the medical team, offering treatment management, guidance, and prescribing medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards.
The role requires strong leadership skills to foster collaboration, drive clinical excellence, and ensure the highest quality of care.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team including consulting with other appropriate healthcare professionals.
Maintain an effective system of communication among the physicians and nurse practitioners through periodic in-person meetings, email, and phone call communications.
Follow-up and discuss any compliments or concerns with the physicians or nurse practitioners, related to their medical practice and overall performance, including reporting such compliments or concerns to the Executive Director, and taking necessary steps to recognize or address them.
Lead the physicians and nurse practitioner team in planning for medical coverage during vacations, illnesses, transitions, and succession planning.
Participate in management, organizational, or patient/referent meetings as Medical Director.
Consult with the nurse practitioners, doctors, nurses, and clinical team members regarding patient care and progress.
Provide ongoing client care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Evaluate treatment referrals to ensure they contain all necessary information, such as patient demographics, medical history, and reason for referral.
Prescribe and evaluate patient medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards.
Requisition diagnostic services as needed and conduct follow-up.
Maintain current progress records on patients according to legal and ethical standards.
Orient, facilitate, and reinforce patient involvement in eating disorder treatment.
Provide ongoing health education to patients about common health problems co-occurring with eating disorders.
Communicate and collaborate with patients and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care, and prognosis.
Support transition planning, including considerations of the home environment and alternative levels of care within the healthcare system.
Assess and recognize population health trends; plan and implement strategies for population-based prevention.
Work with the Executive Director to address legal and ethical issues in patient care.
Develop and implement evidence-based strategies to improve care and participate in healthcare policy creation and evaluation.
Collaborate with clients and health professionals to identify trends affecting clients, families, and communities.
Take responsibility for own professional development and educational or consultative assistance.
Participate in the medical on-call rotation with other physicians and nurse practitioners.
Handle designated facility custodian responsibilities related to PIA (Privacy Impact Assessment).

Qualifications :

The Medical Director must hold a valid Alberta medical license.
Be a member in good standing with the Alberta Medical Association.
Maintain professional liability or indemnity insurance coverage and membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association appropriate to their practice scope.
