PRIME Artistic Director

We are looking for a new Artistic Director to lead PRIME, Dance Base's resident dance performance company for dancers over 60, in their creative and technical development.

The role (reporting to Dance Base's Head of Professional Programmes and Dance Base Artistic Director) will focus on continuing to grow PRIME's skill and cohesion as a company and on creating new pieces.
The Artistic Director's main responsibilities are to:
• Contribute to the recruitment / auditioning process for PRIME membership 2025/26
• Deliver PRIME weekly class (Tuesdays 14:15 - 15:45 each week during the term)
• Curate teachers for the PRIME classes throughout the year to supplement their own teaching of the company
• Manage one guest residency with PRIME members, delivered by a guest choreographer curated by the AD in collaboration with Dance Base's Head of Professional Programme
• Choreograph a new work for PRIME to be developed during a residency week with additional time for development during regular weekly class
• Support Dance Base in its curation of teachers for a new public programme class aimed at dancers over 60
• Shared responsibility with the Head of Professional Programme for elements of company management, including:
• Drafting and sharing class and rehearsal schedules
• Being the first point of contact for company member queries
• Scheduling performance rehearsals and attending performances, such as: Dance Base Summer Rumble; Dance Base Christmas Show; Occasional external performances.
• Support for the company's annual Fringe performance, including:
• Rehearsal directing
• Coordinating with LYDC lead artist on the programming of double bill performance as required
• Sharing and aiding in the documentation of PRIME teaching practice in collaboration with Dance Base Artistic Director Tony. This will likely be two meeting sessions in the year.
The role is currently being recruited for a one-year term, with the option to extend by mutual agreement.
Fees:
• £2,400 per year. This is made up of £800 per term (we run three terms - autumn, spring and summer), to cover an equivalent of £200/day for 4 days per term.
• £2,400 choreographer fee for the creation of a new performance piece in residency week.
• £62 per class taught, plus up to £11 travel contribution if traveling in from outside Edinburgh.
• For the full year, the budget for class is therefore £2,232 and £396 for travel.
• Teaching fees are agreed separately as teachers are confirmed, as are Fringe Festival rehearsal director fees.
