  • Hairdryer (and converters)
  • Camera/film/batteries
  • Travel books
  • Alarm clock
  • Sunscreen
  • Bathing suit
  • Medications in original bottles
  • Small first-aid kit
  • Glasses/Contact lenses
  • Toiletries

Essentials&Documents

  • Passport/Visa
  • Plane itinerary
  • Medical Insurance Card and Coverage Plan (please make sure to read this first)
  • Student ID/ISIC card
  • Photocopies of your passport, travel documents, traveler’s checks, and credit cards packed in a different location from the actual documents
  • Money belt/Neck wallet
  • Money/Traveler’s checks (we recommend approximately $300 in cash/travelers checks)
  • Credit Cards/ ATM Card
  • Phone cards
  • Electricity converter kit
  • Phone numbers and addresses of a few close friends and relatives that you may want to call/send a postcard

What to leave behind

  • Laptop (think twice if you’ll need it)
  • Electronic items
  • Cell phones
  • Anything of substantial value that might be stolen
  • Too many clothes!
  • Expensive jewelry
  • Leave a copy of your itinerary, passport, travelers check numbers and credit card cancellation number with family orfriends at home in case of an emergency.
