Clinical Veterinarian - Non-Human Primates

We are currently seeking a dedicated Clinical Veterinarian with a specialization in Non-Human Primates (NHP) to join our team at a leading CDC quarantine facility. This critical role supports the welfare and health management of NHPs used primarily in research and breeding programs. As a key member of our team, you will be tasked with delivering comprehensive veterinary care, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and contributing to the health of breeding colonies. Salary:
$150,000.00 - $185,000.00 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform preventive medicine protocols, including quarantine and dental procedures, based on review and analysis of health records.
Develop, implement, and modify preventive medicine plans and protocols based on clinical outcomes.
Conduct regular health assessments and bio-sample analyses for colony animals, in coordination with other veterinary and colony staff.
Provide acute and follow-up care to sick or injured animals, and continuously monitor colony animals for signs of disease or injury.
Execute diagnostic imaging, surgical, and anesthetic procedures, offering guidance on proper surgical practices and maintenance of surgical facilities.
Manage pre- and post-operative care, including the administration of anesthetics, analgesics, and antibiotics.
Maintain rigorous compliance with all regulatory requirements of USDA, PHS, AAALAC, and other agencies.
Direct and supervise routine veterinary clinical operations, contributing to staff training and development.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited school and at least 1 year of experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine.
Immediate eligibility for USDA accreditation and ability to obtain DEA registration.
Demonstrated veterinary clinical skills with a focus on NHPs.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for maintaining clinical records and management of data.
Excellent written and oral communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Clinical proficiency in handling NHPs with advanced technical skills specific to primate care.
ACLAM board certification or eligibility.
Experience in supervising veterinary or technical staff in a clinical setting.
Prior experience working within a USDA or FDA regulated research environment.
Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory standards applicable to the use of animals in research including USDA, PHS, and AAALAC guidelines.
Skills:
Excellent diagnostic and surgical skills, including radiology, ultrasound, and various surgical techniques.
Ability to manage animal databases and detailed clinical records.
Skills in planning and executing effective animal health management protocols.
Strong organizational and leadership capabilities, with an aptitude for precise and compliant documentation.
Deep understanding and practical application of anesthetic and analgesic regimens in a clinical setting.
