Assistant Nursing Director RN/Registered Nurse - NICU

General Summary of Position

The Assistant Nursing Director role is a great position that allows you to remain close to the bedside and serve as a front-line nurse leader. MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is seeking a dedicated and engaged Assistant Nursing Director to lead our Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Team. As a member of our Division of Nursing's (DON) leadership/management team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of patient care in this specialized field.

Position Overview
In collaboration with the NICU Nursing Director, the Assistant Nursing Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the Level IV Neonatal ICU at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, a five-time designated Magnet® hospital. The Assistant Nursing Director role offers the chance to direct and coordinate the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel. As a nursing leader, you will promote an environment that aligns with the Division of Nursing and MedStar Health's mission, vision, and values. This role offers the chance to work directly with patients as well as coordinating the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel; two 12-hour shifts per week working directly with patients and 2 8-hour shifts per week of leadership and administrative responsibilities.

Unit Highlights

The Neonatal ICU at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital
is a 36-bed unit providing expert nursing care for infants with many critical
diagnoses. It is one of two Level IV NICUs in Washington, D.C., which is the
highest level designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Some of the most
common diagnoses include Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Extreme Prematurity, Neonatal
Encephalopathy, Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension, Sepsis/Septic Shock, Neurological
Disorders, Genetic and/or Metabolic Disorders, Gastrointestinal Disorders, and Surgical
needs.

Ours is the only NICU in the Washington, D.C. region where
a Clinical Nurse can participate in high-risk deliveries, be trained as an ECMO
tech and participate in both flight and ground transports. Our NICU is the
major referral center for all MedStar-affiliated facilities, as well as several
community hospitals in the tri-state area. The NICU offers the following
innovative treatments and technologies:

ECMO: ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
Total Body Therapeutic Hypothermia
Bedside Patent Ductus Arteriosus Ligation
Inhaled Nitric Oxide
High Frequency Oscillator Ventilation
High Frequency Jet Ventilation

The NICU Nursing Staff is incredibly engaged, with a
remarkable number of nurses participating in Shared Governance and the Clinical
Advancement Program. The following committees/councils are Clinical Nurse-led
and driven: Parent Advisory Support Group, Practice Council, Scheduling
Committee, Bereavement Committee, and Developmental Care Committee.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Nursing is a member of MedStar Health entity-based Division of Nursing and leadership team. Supports and collaborates with the Director of Nursing in providing leadership and oversight for a specific unit/department. Directs and coordinates the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel. Ensures the provision of holistic, culturally competent, and person-centered, quality, safe, and cost-effective evidence-based nursing care for patients/families. Applies the nursing process within the context of the organization's shared/collaborative decision-making framework. Collaboratively manages the patient's transitions across the continuum of care to assist patients and populations in achieving or maintaining an optimal level of health and functioning. The Assistant Director of Nursing assumes administrative and leadership authority and responsibility on a 24 hours/7 days per week basis for the assigned unit/department. Fosters associates' commitment to improving quality, safety, and cost-conscious patient care outcomes. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing in maintaining adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards, and MedStar Health's policies and procedures. Qualifications

• BSN from an accredited School of Nursing required. Master's degree in Nursing or a health related field from a nationally accredited program preferred.
• 3-4 years progressive nursing care (RN) experience required. 2 NICU nursing (RN) experience required.
• Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.
• Specialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization in either a clinical specialty or Nursing Administration preferred.

This position has a hiring range of $100,588.00 - $190,340.00
