PURPOSE OF POSITION\: To function as a professional respiratory therapist and able to apply theoretical knowledge to the care of infant child; adolescent and adult patients and clients. To demonstrate competence in Respiratory Care skills; problem solving; critical thinking and prioritization. To recognize the need for professional growth and to take appropriate steps towards meeting educational needs

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Compliance - Patient Services StaffSustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.
• Interprofessional Practice\:Demonstrates consistent integration of the Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM) in all aspects of practice.
• Patient Care - Age Specific and Culturally DiverseConsistently integrates age specific and culturally diverse concepts into patient care, taking into consideration both the patient's chronological age and developmental functioning.
• AssessmentAssesses patients, clients and families and recognizes normal parameters, deviations and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental and behavioral status as it relates to cardio-pulmonary needs using a family centered approach to care, plans and prioritizes care to meet patient, client and family needs, Collects clinical data, utilizes decision trees and guidelines. Matches formal knowledge with clinical events to make appropriate decisions
• Demonstrates Clinical Judgement\:Demonstrates competence in the implementation of the technical skills required for the care of the patients, clients and families according to CCHMC policies, procedures and standards. Demonstrate compliance with established practices in documentation of care Identifies goals and outcomes for health with the patient, client and family. Directs interventions towards the attainment of goals and outcomes as it relates to cardio pulmonary health. Evaluates effectiveness of care. Demonstrates critical thinking by making appropriate care decisions and relating that information to the healthcare team. Implement the standards of the patient care and access. Facilitates patient and family learning by providing structured education based upon the Plan of Care and patient and family needs
• Evidence Based Practice and ResearchDemonstrate awareness of the value of research and evidence based practice in respiratory care. Utilizes the knowledge to implement researched-based practice developed by others
• Collaboration with Health Care Team\:Works on behalf of patient and family; aware of ethical conflicts and issues that may surface; Represents the needs of the patient and family to the healthcare team as it relates to cardiopulmonary issues; contributes and is receptive to the overall knowledge of the interdisciplinary team in meetings and rounds. Supports divisional leadership initiatives. Participates in the shared governance structure at the point of care as a member of unit based or divisional councils/ committees or by contributing to shared governance decision making (reading minutes, giving feedback and implementing council decisions)
• Professional Competence\:Demonstrate competence in unit specific knowledge, skills and behaviors. Assesses personal values and cultural diversity; aware of ethical conflicts/issues that may surface in clinical setting Seeks help when needed to identify patient problems/conditions. Uses self appraisal performance review and peer review, including annual goal setting, for assurance of competence and professional development to promote safe and ethical practice. Demonstrates openness to coaching and mentoring from others. Recognizes lateral violence and bullying among respiratory therapist's or between healthcare professionals is inappropriate in the workplace. Facilitates learning by assisting with peer and students learning experiences. Works with department managers and supervisors to identify, share, implement and evaluate safety best practices
• EducationMaintain currency in field through participating in patient care conferences, committee meetings, in-services, staff conferences, council activities, seminars respiratory grand rounds and literature. Recognizes the need for further education to improve patient care


Qualification:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required\:

• Graduate of a CoARC approved respiratory care program

• Registry credentials by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

• Other state licenses may be required for specific positions

• Possess certification in the following at the end of the first year of employment\:

• PALS Certification

• ACLS Certification

• NRP Certification

• RT's whose primary work unit is NICU are required to be certified in NRP and PALS. All other RT's are required to be certified in PALS and ACLS
Preferred\:

• Bachelors of Science degree in an appropriate discipline

• NPS Certification by the NBRC
