R&D Technician

The laboratory responsibilities of an R&D technician will align with one of two tracks, process research and development or analytical research and development.
Some general tasks associated with these functions are listed below:
• Operates analytical equipment, process equipment, set up and execute laboratory experiments, and troubleshoots under direct supervision.
• Maintains an adequately supplied, properly cleaned and safe laboratory to minimize test delays, test errors and mishaps by using good laboratory and housekeeping practices.
• Prepare mobile phase for HPLC use, make analytical samples, and test samples accurately under direct supervision.
• Set up chemical reactions following specific procedures on laboratory scale and generate consistent results under direct supervision.
• Performs simple to moderately complex tests and analyses on raw materials, in process samples and products such as chemicals and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients to assure that products comply with established specifications, and to determine stability, purity, chemical content, and other characteristics.
Follows standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
Carries out calculations and prepares documentation that shows the results of tests performed.
Documents test results into log books, worksheets, or computer databases.
Communicates status of test results.
• Maintains and provides notebooks, records, reports, action/check lists and documentation which are current, legible, readily understood, complete and accurate to insure compliance with established procedures and specifications, and are verifiable as required or requested.
• Ensure that all current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) requirements are met.
• Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by a Scientific Affairs Manager.

On a project basis, will be required to operate the cGMP Small Scale Production Facility.
Some general responsibilities and tasks are listed below:
• Under supervision, operates chemical production processes by following detailed instructions.
Sets up, operates and cleans production equipment used to produce intermediate or finished products for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, Narcotic

products or raw material components.
Completes all associated support activities in the production of these products
• Possess a basic understanding of a limited number of chemical production processes within area of assignment and a working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and chemical processing principles.
• Follows and accurately completes batch records/logs, SAP transactions and other documentation associated with all production processes to ensure efficient operations and compliance with cGMP and standard operating procedures.
• Receive and ship all material for Noramco site utilizing the appropriate systems for Raw Materials, Finished Goods, and other items.
Updates delivery schedules as required.
• Coordinates appropriate shipping companies; completes required documentation and ensures shipment in accordance with regulatory and company guidelines.
• Samples, labels, and properly stores raw materials when received in the warehouse.
• Performs all duties in compliance with applicable safety, health, environmental, and regulatory (cGMP, DEA, FDA, OSHA) guidelines.
Complies with all company and site policies and procedures.
• Must be available for overtime work on a scheduled or emergency basis.
• Must be able to work on a rotating shift basis as necessary.

  • Performs all duties with attention to quality, safety and environmental matters.
    Items include:
    wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, recognizing, reporting, and appropriately responding to hazards in the work area (spills/accidents/near misses), maintaining proper housekeeping at all times, and properly labeling and storing chemicals.
  • Complete RCRA training within first six months of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Complete all regulatory training as assigned (cGPM, ISO14001, OSHA, DEA, etc.).
  • Complete Operator Training Program and/or Laboratory Analyst Training Program according to established guidelines.
  • Successfully completes any additional job training requirements.
  • Continuously looks for ways to simplify or improve products, services, systems, and processes to achieve business goals, e.g., improve yield, cycle time, quality, and productivity.
  • Makes a positive contribution through demonstration of ability to seek out assistance from co-workers as needed; to suggest ways to improve upon current operations practices and systems; and to learn new skills, procedures and processes.
  • Interfaces with operations and technical personnel.
  • This position requires complete understanding and working knowledge of computerized data acquisition, analysis and handling techniques to ensure reliable, prompt, precise and accurate test data using established methods and procedures.
