JOB PURPOSE: To oversee and maintain the care of Residents within the Nursing Home in the absence of the Home Manager, taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Nursing Home, and ensuring adherence to all Company policies, procedures, and legal requirements within specified timescales.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES CARE:

• Ensure all Staff contribute to the efficient operation of the Nursing Home and foster an atmosphere conducive to Residents' best interests.
• Interact with Residents to meet their healthcare needs, resolve issues, and liaise with the District Nurse regarding their health.
• Report any ill-health among Residents and request GP or professional visits as necessary.
• Ensure meals are of sufficient quantity and quality, meeting Residents' dietary needs.
• Perform general nursing work and personal care as appropriate.
• Administer prescribed medicines and maintain records according to NMBI and Company guidelines.
• Support and assist the Home Manager in auditing Care Plan documentation to ensure best practice.
• Practice maximum integrity in dealings with Residents' personal and financial affairs, avoiding abuse of the privileged relationship.
• Establish and maintain respectful and dignified relationships with Residents that promote independence.
• Liaise with the Director of Nursing to provide on-call cover for holidays and alternate weekends (up to a maximum).

COMMUNICATION:

• Maintain effective communication with the Home Manager.
• In the absence of the Home Manager, communicate effectively with Residents, Relatives, Staff, Managing Director, Divisional Office, and other concerned bodies.
• Obtain reports from the Person in Charge and advise the Home Manager regarding incidents, accidents, or Residents' health concerns.
• Supervise visits and liaise with GPs to foster good relationships between GPs/Health Care Professionals and the Nursing Home.
• Ensure clear and concise handover reports are given to staff.
• Participate in Staff and Client meetings as required.

BUDGETARY / FINANCIAL CONTROL:

• Manage and monitor budgets as agreed by the Home Manager and Divisional Office, taking corrective actions in their absence.
• Ensure all commodities are used sensibly and conserved by staff.

HUMAN RESOURCES (HR):

• Adhere to and implement all HR policies and procedures.
• In the absence of the Home Manager, assist in filling staff vacancies, conduct interviews, and maintain accurate records of staff hours.
• Monitor and control sickness absence in line with company policy.
• Ensure staff are aware of policies and procedures.
• Implement disciplinary and grievance procedures as needed.
• Assist with staff supervision, appraisal, and ongoing assessment.
• Organize and oversee staff training, including equal opportunities.
• Plan workload and staff cover in the absence of the Home Manager and Administrator.
• Ensure continued accurate data collection for payroll purposes.

MARKETING:

• Promote the Nursing Home and maintain a positive profile in the community.
• Assist in filling resident vacancies by liaising with H.S.E. and assessing applicants.
• Ensure the Nursing Home is attractively presented and odor-free.
• Maintain a well-presented viewing room for prospective residents.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT:

• Supervise and guide junior and new staff members.
• Maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills.
• Attend mandatory training sessions as required.

HEALTH & SAFETY:

• Report illnesses and accidents immediately and be responsible for infection control.
• Implement health and safety policies and emergency procedures.
• Carry out duties as Chief Fire Officer in line with safety guidelines.
• Report hazards and ensure safe working practices.

GENERAL:

• Adhere to NMBI guidelines and regulations.
• Maintain stock and records as required by health authorities and management.
• Be 'on-call' for emergencies and shift coverage.
• Maintain confidentiality of all work-related information.
• Assist with accessing funds for residents from government or external agencies.
• Notify the Home Manager or HR of absences and return to work.
• Report directly to the Managing Director in the absence of the Home Manager.
• Ensure the security of the Nursing Home at all times.
• Follow all company policies and procedures within deadlines.
• Maintain equipment and carry out other tasks as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Current NMBI Registration
• Previous management/supervisory experience
• Effective communication skills at all levels
• Team player
• Genuine interest in working with elderly clients
• Garda Vetting clearance
• Care for the Elderly qualification/experience

DESIRED:

• Minimum two years management/supervisory experience
