Position Summary:

The successful incumbent in this role will join a small team providing payroll, financial services, analysis and support to our 4 locations in the Prairies. The Accountant / Payroll Administrator will be responsible for providing day-to-day support on issues such as attendance/time management, payroll processing, preparing and maintaining various forms of financial reports and ledger reconciliations with a high attention to detail.

Position Functions:

Financial Accounting

Perform various day-to-day accounting transactions and journal entries
Reconcile various general ledger accounts
Participate in various monthly accounting cycle activities and reporting
Variance and margin analysis
Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
Create and maintain well-organized spreadsheets to accurately track various data
Submit provincial and federal government reporting and tax filing
Provide accounts payable support and process online payments when required
Participate in the preparation of forecasts and budgets
Assist with the compilation of year-end audit reports
Support and participate in cross-training to provide coverage for other positions within the finance team as needed
Willingness to learn new skills and provide input to improve current processes to create efficiencies

Payroll Administration

Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all hourly and salary employees using Ceridian Dayforce. This currently includes a combination of weekly, bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls
Review union contracts and ensure payroll compliance; update system with new contractual items as required
Ensure adherence to provincial and federal payroll laws, including tax, EI, and CPP deductions
Review timesheets on a weekly basis and address any concerns with supervisors/managers as necessary to ensure accurate submission of hours for payroll processing
Generate ROE's and letters of employment as required and respond to related government or external inquiries in a timely manner
Complete quarterly reconciliation of payroll and process any adjustments required to ensure accurate T4's at year end
Keep meticulous payroll and employee records for audits and compliance purposes
Address payroll-related inquiries promptly and effectively, providing clarity on deductions, benefits, and policies
Reconcile and prepare documentation and ensure prompt payment of all necessary filings including union dues, WCB, RRSP remittances

Qualifications and Experience Required:

Post secondary education in business, finance or accounting
Minimum of 5 years of payroll processing experience for both union and non-union payrolls
Candidate must have experience with Ceridian Dayforce and be able to work proficiently in it
Solid understanding of Canadian employment and payroll legislation in Saskatchewan and Alberta
Demonstrated experience reviewing payroll tax regulations ensuring all compliance requirements have been met
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive information
Minimum of 3 years' full-cycle accounting experience
Proficient working with Google Workspace apps and Microsoft Excel
Excellent problem-solving skills
Experience in aSa/Sage MAS 500 would be an asset
Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas is an asset
Preference given to those with experience in the construction, manufacturing, or steel fabrication industry
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly analytical, and detail oriented; strong attention to accuracy is a must
Strong problem-solving skills
Organized and excellent time management with the ability to juggle multiple priorities concurrently
Able to handle stress and strict deadlines
