Join us at an exciting time as we establish a foundation for how the City of Toronto designs and implements its Enterprise Data Platform.
You'll b e a part of our Data Integration and Access team within the newly formed Enterprise Data and Artificial Intelligence unit of the Technology Services Division.

With a focus of supporting the delivery of data analytics projects through effective data modeling, in this role you will also be enhancing the capabilities of the City of Toronto's Enterprise Data Platform.
You will join a growing team that includes data engineers, cloud engineers, data science and visualization specialists, service designers, business transformation leads, and other data modelers who are all driving the modernization and vision for Toronto's world class Enterprise Data Platform.

We are seeking a dynamic individual with a specialization in data modeling to join our team.
In this role you'll support our work defining and establishing data analytics projects for various teams across the City, with a primary focus on data the City creates and oversees as part of initiatives to support new housing.
Through this work you will also be expanding the utility of the City's data through the establishment of a data mesh within the Enterprise Data Platform.
This comprehensive data view across analytics projects will empower the City to ask broader questions and enable insights through analysis across traditionally siloed data.
Data modeling plays an essential role in achieving this vision.

Your responsibilities are not limited to but will include:
analyzing data sources; reviewing business processes to discover useful data attributes and KPIs; creating master data models; defining conceptual, logical, and physical data models; reviewing, documenting, and establishing analytical data pipelines and analytics products; and developing guides and templates for effective data modeling practices.

In this emerging team you'll also have the opportunity to cross-train in the shared disciplines of other team members and expand your experience working in the cloud.
We are currently establishing and templating the team's approach to deliver cloud data analytics tooling that will support various data analytics, data visualization, and dashboarding projects.
You'll be an active member cross-skilling in establishing end-to-end data analytics projects; so a strong desire and capability to learn (or enhance existing skills) in data ingestion using cloud tooling (like AWS Glue), establishing data pipelines, spinning up cloud infrastructure, and utilizing DevOps practices is highly valuable.

Major Responsibilities:

• Develops & implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
• Conducts research into assigned area ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
• Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
• Prepares business cases, project charters, concept documentation, project plans and related materials that contribute to City initiatives and the effective use of Technology assets and services that will lead to service efficiencies and optimization of resources.
• Documents and analyzes business processes, business requirements, input costs and output levels and conducts workflow analysis and data modelling.
• Provides documentation, including but not limited to requirements definitions, master data models, conceptual data models, logical data models, physical data models, environmental scans, process models and technology roadmaps in support of all stages (Concept, Definition, Planning, Execution, and Closing) of a project or initiative.
• Conducts analyses to measure the effectiveness of technology solutions and service delivery methods and processes.
• Make recommendations to stakeholders on changes in methods and processes.
• Evaluates and makes recommendations on alternative methods of delivering technology solutions.
• Designs or modifies technology solutions for administering the delivery of service and tracking the cost and effectiveness of service delivery.
• Prepares reports to management supporting recommendations on changes in technology solutions, business methods and business processes including appropriate staffing levels and resource allocation.
• Documents or contributes to product visions, user cases, user case models and supplementary specifications including screen mock-ups, report mock-ups and business rules.
• Conducts studies on the feasibility of integrating technology and processes to deliver a range of support services.
• Identifies, analyzes, rationalizes and optimizes business processes, inputs and outputs at a detailed level in regards to data analytics initiatives by interviewing, documenting and facilitating process review/re-engineering sessions with stakeholders.
• Initiates and conducts, in coordination with divisional business representatives, research and analysis on opportunities to employ emerging technologies and/or process redesign to effectively deliver City services.
• Identifies potential technology business integration opportunities through knowledge of industry trends and related divisional technology projects.
• Document or contribute to service visions, use cases, use case models and supplementary specifications including screen mock-ups, report mock-ups and business rules.
• Organizes, participates and conducts proof-of-concept initiatives with client stakeholders that will assist in the determination of adopting new technologies and processes.
• Provides support, in collaboration with the client community and with key inputs from all Technology sections, to a central library of concepts that will streamline capital business case creation and contribute to the overall Technology Portfolio.
• Contributes and builds a Data Modeling Centre of Excellence through ongoing interaction and sharing of best practices and standards with Data Modelers, Data Engineers, and other staff across all divisions.
• Liaises and communicates with other members of Architecture and Portfolio Delivery and Technology service providers to ensure optimization of efforts and increased cross-collaboration.
• Contributes to the creation of unit work plans.
• Any other assignments as required by the Portfolio Manager.
