Manitoba Hydro also plays a key role in regional energy markets by exporting electricity to neighbouring provinces and U.In this strategic role, you will be responsible for overseeing complex power system planning studies that assess the performance, reliability, and security of Manitoba's high-voltage transmission network.
You will lead a team of engineers in conducting detailed simulations and analyses related to generation station interconnections, transmission service requests, and system expansions that impact the development of the provincial and interprovincial power grid.
As a key technical authority, you will also contribute to regulatory compliance efforts, advise on infrastructure investment decisions, and collaborate with external stakeholders including neighbouring utilities and regulatory bodies.
This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer with a deep understanding of power system operations and planning, strong analytical capabilities, and a proven ability to lead technical teams in delivering results that support long-term energy strategy and reliability objectives.
Power System Planning & Study Execution
Lead complex power system studies involving load flow, transient stability, fault analysis, and voltage stability using tools such as PSS/E and DSA PowerTools.
Oversee simulation model development and ensure the accuracy of planning assumptions.
Regulatory & Tariff-Based Studies
Lead Generator Interconnection Studies and Facility Studies under the Open Access Interconnection Tariff (OAIT).
Conduct System Impact and Facility Studies for long-term firm Transmission Service Requests under the OATT or equivalent tariffs.
Stakeholder Engagement & Technical Leadership
Represent Manitoba Hydro in technical working groups and committees, providing subject matter expertise in transmission planning and reliability.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university; a Master's degree or post-graduate coursework in power systems is an asset.
~7+ years of related experience, including at least 3 years in high voltage AC/DC system analysis and planning, and 1 year of supervisory experience.
~ Familiarity with interconnection and transmission service request procedures and relevant planning standards.
~ Working knowledge of control systems, protective relaying, and the electrical characteristics of transmission components.
~ Python) and experience with electromagnetic transient programs (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC) are assets.
~ Knowledge of RTDS testing and RSCAD programming is an asset.
