Overview

As a 3D Stereo Compositor in our 3D conversion organization you will be responsible for integrating left-eye and right-eye images to create a high-quality stereoscopic experience for converted 2D-to-3D films. You will ensure depth consistency, eliminate visual artifacts, and refine the final composite to meet cinematic standards. This role requires both artistic and technical expertise in stereo compositing, depth grading, and post-production pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

Stereo Compositing & 3D Conversion:

Integrate depth-mapped elements from 2D-to-3D conversion teams to generate realistic stereoscopic imagery.
Composite left-eye and right-eye views while ensuring alignment and depth consistency.
Work with disparity maps, depth grading tools, and multi-pass compositing to achieve high-quality results.

Depth Refinement & Quality Control:

Adjust parallax and depth grading to create a comfortable and immersive 3D viewing experience.
Identify and correct stereo artifacts such as ghosting, edge violations, and depth inconsistencies.
Perform roto, paint, and cleanup work to refine converted 3D images.

Technical & Pipeline Integration:

Use industry-standard software Nuke and proprietary conversion tools for stereo compositing.
Work with depth passes and Z-depth data to refine depth perception.
Collaborate with depth artists and compositing teams to enhance the overall 3D effect.

Collaboration with VFX & Stereography Teams:

Work closely with stereographers, compositors, and pipeline engineers to maintain an efficient workflow.
Implement feedback from stereo supervisors to refine the depth and visual quality of shots.
Ensure all final outputs meet the technical and artistic standards required for theatrical releases.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise:

Strong proficiency in Nuke, with experience in Ocula for stereo adjustments.
Understanding of depth maps, disparity tools, and 2D-to-3D conversion techniques.
Experience in roto, paint fixes, and tracking for stereo workflows.
Familiarity with multi-pass compositing, projection mapping, and optical flow techniques.

Artistic Skills:

Strong eye for depth, composition, and stereo balance.
Understanding of cinematic language and depth storytelling.
Ability to match live-action and CG elements seamlessly in a stereo space.

Soft Skills:

Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Effective teamwork and communication with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

Education: Degree or diploma in Visual Effects, Animation, Film, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
10+ years of experience in compositing, with at least 2 years in 3D conversion for film.
Background in major VFX or stereo conversion studios (e.g., DNEG, Stereo D, Legend 3D, Prime Focus, or similar).
Bonus Skills:
Familiarity with Python scripting for pipeline automation.
Knowledge of AI-driven depth extraction tools.
