The Product Designer II - Design System at Careem is responsible for developing, implementing, and governing the company's design system. This role ensures consistency, scalability, and user-centered experiences across all digital platforms. The Product Designer II will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, maintain, and evolve design standards, guidelines, and components. This role requires expertise in design systems, stakeholder management, and strategic alignment with business objectives, while fostering innovation and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities and Competencies
Design System Evolution:
Oversee development and refinement of Careem's design system, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs. Establish and enforce scalable standards, guidelines, and best practices. Provide guidance on design decisions and advocate for the value of the design system.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
Partner with product management, engineering, and design teams; manage stakeholder relationships; lead design guilds; process feedback to refine system components.
Component Ownership and System Implementation:
Manage lifecycle of design system components; develop documentation; collaborate with engineering; ensure accessibility and high-quality implementation.
Strategic Product and Project Management:
Align with product teams; facilitate decision-making; identify and drive system improvements.
Driving Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
Monitor industry trends; conduct design reviews; promote innovation within standards.
Mentorship and Team Development:
Foster a collaborative culture; mentor team members; inspire strategic design initiatives.
Communication and System Advocacy:
Advocate for the design system; gather feedback; synthesize insights into system enhancements.
Quality, Precision, and Thought Leadership:
Ensure high accuracy; promote simplification; develop prototypes for decisions.
Cross-Functional Influence and Strategic Vision:
Represent design initiatives; align processes with company vision; use data and storytelling to build consensus.
