A Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, operates imaging equipment, and works closely with physicians to diagnose and treat diseases.
This role combines technical expertise with patient care and safety practices.Key Responsibilities:
Patient Preparation:
Interview and screen patients prior to proceduresExplain test procedures and ensure informed consentPosition patients correctly for scansRadiopharmaceutical Handling:
Prepare and administer radioactive drugsMonitor patients for adverse reactionsAdhere to safety protocols for storage and disposalImaging and Equipment Operation:
Operate gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners, and related equipmentCapture diagnostic images as ordered by a physicianCalibrate and maintain imaging equipmentData Management:
Process and analyze scan dataPrepare detailed diagnostic reports for physician interpretationMaintain accurate patient and procedure recordsSafety and Compliance:
Follow radiation safety procedures and monitor exposure levelsComply with state, federal, and institutional regulationsParticipate in quality assurance and control programsCollaboration:
Work with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare providersAssist in scheduling and coordinating imaging proceduresTrain and supervise student technologists or new staffQualifications:
