Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Installs meters for new customers; removes jumpers from meter bases
- Takes readings on meter dials before installing and disconnecting service and removing meters
- Reconnects service for customers who have paid bills after service was disconnected
- Checks meters to ensure that they are in good condition and makes minor repairs and adjustments to meters
- Checks meters to detect illegal connections and reports findings to supervisors
- Wires current and potential transformers; tests meter for accuracy using test equipment
- Drives standard vehicles
- Knowledge of the geography and street locations
- Knowledge of basic electricity and formulas
- Knowledge of the Authority's rules and regulations for electric service
- Knowledge of the use of instrument transformers and their application in metering
- Ability to read and follow simple wiring diagrams
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public
- Ability to calculate simple load requirements for service installation
