WORK WEEK SCHEDULE:
Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends). Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Serves as an integral member of the SES team in an effort to significantly improve delivery of special education programs and services to children with disabilities. Facilitates the creation, coordination, and management of a monitoring system for SES that meets district, state, and federal guidelines. Supports SES by leading professional development initiatives for teachers and staff members that directly relate to the results of the established monitoring system. Collaborates with all SES teams to facilitate the district's implementation and compliance of state and federal guidelines for students with disabilities requiring special education and related services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Considerable knowledge of federal and state special education laws, regulations, and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Apps.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
Ability to reflect appropriate responses to complex and sensitive situations while maintaining a professional demeanor.
Ability to lead and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external funding agency staff, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree in special education or school administration.
Five years of successful teaching and/or related professional experience.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator's license in special education.
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated successful experience supervising staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the SES Director of Policy and Monitoring by creating, coordinating, and managing a comprehensive monitoring system that meets the requirements for district, state, and federal monitoring purposes in SES.
Supports the design and implementation of the monitoring process by developing an evaluation tool to measure the effectiveness of the process in relation to the SES Strategic Plan.
Engages with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) departments to collect, monitor, and report data findings in several key areas within SES.
Coordinates with other SES teams to develop and provide ongoing targeted professional development to SES and school-based staff based on outcomes, trends, and data from the monitoring process.
Participates in research initiatives within SES, as directed by the Assistant Superintendent of SES, Senior Director of Policy, and/or Director of Policy and Monitoring.
Supports processes related to Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE) and requests for service animals.
Assists with facilitation of Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings and management of dispute cases.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This job operates in a professional office environment with a noise level that is mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position may involve direct contact with school system staff, external funding agency staff, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
