Adheres to nursing service behavior standards and is responsible for coordination of patient care in the ambulatory outpatient and surgery area. In collaboration with the Manager, OR Supervisor and Pre-op Surgical Services Coordinator, determines and prepares for specific patient needs, develops and updates ambulatory outpatient and surgery policies and procedures and determines and helps to develop patient teaching needs. RN will also assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care regarding surgical patients; assist with surgical procedures as directed; and function as RN in Surgery, Angio, Radiology and recovery room or outpatient surgery when assigned.
Essential Functions
Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
Review entire outpatient surgery schedule upon arrival for shift and prepare patient information to assure uninterrupted flow of patients.
Coordinate patient care and caregivers (including self).
Assure that medications (including special medications/antibiotics), supplies and equipment are stocked, ready and available.
Assures quality patient care is provided by maintaining a strong surgical conscious and leading the surgical team in upholding standards.
Admits and discharges patients.
Follows medication administration management policies.
Reviews charts, pre-operatively, to insure completion with required documentation and surgical permit in place.
Confirms scheduled surgical procedure with patient, family, History and Physical, and scheduling sheet.
Reports and discrepancies of planned surgical procedure to surgeon, circulating nurse, and nurse manager.
Reviews all patient labs and tests (pre-operative) and reports any abnormal results to anesthesia and/or surgeon.
Review charts (post procedure and recovery) for completeness and compliance.
Maintains working knowledge of all Phase I and Phase II recovery and discharge requirements for department.
Monitors, assesses, and documents all Phase I and Phase II requirements of patient case appropriately.
Review charges for completeness and accuracy.
Educates patient on surgical procedure, discharge instructions, and assesses patient and family understanding.
