• Preferred travel experience
• Must have IL license in hand
Facility requires clinical prescreen. If recommended, the hiring manager has 24-hours to accept/decline this candidate. They will not call for a 2nd phone interview.
Department: Float Pool | RN
- What units are included in the float pool: 5 MedSurg/ 5 Med Peds/ Tele IMCU REHAB. Behavioral Health (SR/adolescent/Adult).
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:5-6. IMCU 1-5. Also use LPNs, take a full assignment (no team nursing at this time).
- Required Certifications: BLS. ACLS. NIHSS- Preferred.
- Common diagnoses: Acute surgical, 5 - Ortho/neuro, occasional hip/knee, med surg, detox, hospice. Med Peds, peds (mostly respiratory illness). Tele- post surgical, CHF, Chest pain, radial Cath procedures (will teach radial band management if unsure). Chest tubes- mainly IMCU. High renal population- PD, Rehab- some Ivs. Bipap/cpap- at night if home. Continuous Bipiap goes to IMCU.
- Experience: Cath lab recovery for IMCU. No first time traveler for float pool. 2+years of experience. Prior float experience preferred.
- Are RNs required to titrate drips?: No, only heparin per protocol.
- Common titratable: Heparin, lasix. IMCU (would titrate) amio, cardizem, dobutamine, lasix, insulin (glucomander)- Non titrated.
- Charge Nurse: Team Lead during the day on each unit- does not take patients. Charge on nights/weekends/holidays. Charge takes patients.
- Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: CNAs. 1:10 ratio. If low CNAs, will staff up nurses if possible. Have non-Cna sitters. CNAs sit with suicial/behavioral
- RT Equipment: Vents only on ICU. RT manages settings. BIPAP/CPAP on med/tele only if home setting. Continuous on IMCU/ICU. At times they have pulled nurses to assist RT with Neb treatments- they would ask before they just assigned a nurse to this.
- Is there tele on this unit: Med /Tele- Remote tele. 24/7 monitor tech to monitor and read strips. Nurses read/verify. ICU handles own tele strips.
- Shifts & Scheduling: 5-5, 12 hours. Except for mental health, 7-7. Staff resources. Call in before their shift for their assignment. First schedule will be plugged in where needs are.
- Weekend Requirements: Every other.
- Holiday Requirements: Every other.
- Is there a call or standby requirement?: Not usually.
- How are units assigned: Call in for their assignment no more than 1 hour before shift.
- Scrub Color: Caribbean blue.
- Unit/Department specific orientation: 1-12 hour shift on one units. Units set up similarly.
