Position Summary:
The Interventional Radiology RN is responsible for providing patient care during minimally invasive, image-guided procedures.
The IR Nurse provides critical nursing care to the patient while assisting the Radiologist in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Procedures performed include, but are not limited to, Paracentesis, Thoracentesis, Biopsies under CT, US, and MRI guidance, Aspirations, Cardiac CTA, Myelograms, and Port Dye Studies.
The IR Nurse works closely with scheduling to ensure that procedures are scheduled appropriately and timely.
Consults with the Radiologist to review cases and determine the best course of treatment for the patient.
Closely monitors the patient for complications, administers medications including conscious sedation, and documents the procedure.
Provides communication and patient education both pre and post procedure.
Prepares patients for procedures, including checking and verifying vitals signs, meds, NPO status, lab results, and medical history.
Provides education to the patient and family members, ensuring that everyone understands the procedure and plan of care.
Responsible for inserting and removing intravenous lines.
Assists others with IVs as needed.
Oversees the safety and comfort of patients before, during, and after procedures.
Provides post-procedure monitoring.
Follows up with patients by phone after discharge.
Maintains optimal supply levels in the department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required, Bachelor's or Master's Degree preferred.
- Must have an active Arizona or Compact RN License.
- 1 to 2 years of experience preferred.
- Must obtain ACLS and CPR within 90 days of hire.
