SUMMARY:
Nigig Nibi Ki-win Gamik is dedicated to developing, implementing, and managing child and family well-being programs, including prevention and protection supports, aligned with the Algonquin of Pikwakanagan First Nation's child well-being law, Nigig Nibi Ki-win. The Program Lead(s) will be guided by principles emphasizing nurturing care and cultural supports within prevention programming.
The Program Lead will oversee Prevention Program Assistants, ensuring the delivery of culturally appropriate programming for children, youth, and families through a holistic approach that promotes healthy family lifestyles. This is a full-time position.
The Program Lead will play a key role in leading prevention initiatives, ensuring the delivery of engaging, high-quality, culturally relevant, and client-driven programs. Working closely with the Program Manager, the Lead will develop, implement, and evaluate prevention programs to meet the evolving needs of Pikwakanagan children, youth, their families, and the wider community.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program and Service Delivery
- Develop and oversee planning, coordination, staffing, and implementation of programs for children, parents, and families based on community needs.
- Enhance positive cultural identities among children, youth, families, and communities served.
- Collaborate with Nigig's Communications Department to promote and advertise programs and activities.
- Document program activities, including challenges and successes.
- Work with Program Support Staff on administrative duties such as inventory, bookings, and transportation.
- Provide oversight for all departmental programming.
- Engage with youth, families, elders, and community members to identify needs and opportunities for programming.
- Ensure programs are culturally appropriate, evidence-based, and tailored to community strengths and challenges.
- Collaborative Practice, Supervision, and Leadership
- Coordinate with Nigig's planning committees and programs to ensure quality development and delivery.
- Supervise and support Program Support Staff, providing training and resources.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and culturally respectful work environment.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and support professional growth.
- Community Development
- Assess and prioritize prevention and wellness needs of families and children.
- Develop strategic and annual work plans for the department.
- Lead the development of new prevention strategies and initiatives.
- Network with other departments and community organizations.
- Participate in community committees and meetings.
- Promote community awareness of prevention programs.
- Build relationships with families, community leaders, and Elders.
- Facilitate community consultations and feedback sessions to ensure programs meet community needs.
- Identify partnership opportunities with external agencies and other Indigenous communities.
- Administrative
- Work with the Program Manager to develop administrative policies for engaging and culturally enriching programs.
- Create tools for program analysis and reporting.
- Complete required reports and documentation as per policies and funding requirements.
- Report serious incidents to the Program Manager.
- Manage correspondence, documentation, and data collection.
- Assist in developing program guidelines, rules, and data management systems.
- Quality Management
- Use evidence-based reporting to evaluate programs.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Ensure staff certifications are current.
- Integrate Indigenous perspectives and practices into program delivery.
- Involve the cultural team in programming to incorporate traditions and land-based practices.
- Support community committees related to the program.
- Maintain accurate communication and documentation.
- Respect legal obligations concerning children under Nigig Nibi Ki-win.
- Monitor program strengths and areas for improvement.
- Risk Management
- Develop and participate in risk management plans.
- Protect the privacy and confidentiality of all program and client records.

- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work involves extensive public contact, flexible hours, travel, and handling sensitive information. The role requires standing, sitting, active movement, and dealing with interruptions.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Requirements:
- Diploma in Social Services, Child & Youth Worker, or Early Childhood Education, with at least three years of related experience.
- Experience in program development and implementation.
- At least one year of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Valid class 'G' driver's license, access to a dependable vehicle, and ability to obtain passenger insurance.
- Registration with a recognized regulatory body (asset).
- Enjoy working directly with children and youth.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer proficiency with common software and internet.
- Knowledge of Child, Youth & Family Services Act (Ontario).
