Intermediate Water Resources GIS Analyst

Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) has an opening for a knowledgeable, result-driven and enthusiastic GIS Analyst to join our Public team.
This position will focus on water resources projects, including working with digital terrain models and watershed delineation approaches, that support the provision of services to our many public sector clients.
Ideally, this position would be based out of our Guelph or Woodstock offices; however, we will also consider applicants who are able to work from any Burnside office.
What to expect?
The primary nature of the work requires the application of principles of Geographic Information systems (GIS) technology, cartography, geoprocessing, and data management.
You would be responsible for preparing and managing spatial data, customized cartographic products, as well as other geospatial requests as requested by our clients in support of our planning and operational assessments and studies.
Ideally, you would function independently with minimal supervision, as well as within a team setting, work within defined and often constrained timelines, and communicate clearly with colleagues and co-workers.
Your role would also include providing leadership and support to other GIS users in their roles specific to different sectors, maintaining a consistent approach to all GIS related requests and requirements across the entire company.

The Role
Reporting to the [Position Title], the primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Using creative approaches while leveraging GIS systems to enhance project work.
- Creating, loading, and manipulating geographical and associated data.
- Analyzing and reporting on geographical trends in various memos and reports.
- Preparing custom reports, graphics, charts, maps, plans, documents, and survey data for internal staff and clients.
- Supporting, attending, and participating in client and public meetings.
- Developing, improving, and managing content for presentations, reports, and proposals.
- Supporting other members of the GIS team in developing new and maintaining geoprocessing models as well as storage and filing systems.
- Supporting drainage studies, floodplain mapping, watershed delineation, and other water resources engineering-related projects.
- Acting as a resource for research, surveys, reports, policy development, and specialized studies on land use.
- Preparing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, survey data, maps, and plans in support of studies and projects.
- Conducting data management, spatial analysis, and network analysis to support watershed and drainage studies such as watershed delineation and analysis as well as landowner parcel information for assessments.
- Developing QA/QC processes and protocols.
- Building models and automating geoprocessing workflows in GIS.
- Delivering projects in a timely and efficient manner.
Professional Knowledge & Qualifications
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications, experience, and skills:
- 5+ years' experience in a GIS Specialist role working directly with GIS, Geomatics.
- Urban planning, engineering, or other related degree.
- Experience with Esri products (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
- Experience working with various terrain models.
- The ability to locate, obtain, and work with base data for a variety of project sites.
- Experience working with watershed delineation using ArcHydro is an asset.
- Experience working in a consulting environment is an asset.
- Programming or scripting experience with Python, R, or SQL.
- Working knowledge of and experience with cartographic layouts, GIS best practices, and spatial analysis techniques.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal/team player, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
- Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects concurrently.
- A valid Ontario driver's license and vehicle.
