We are seeking a Senior Advisor - Operational Excellence to join a high-performing team committed to supporting performance improvement activities at Rio Tinto's Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) in Labrador City. This role specifically supports the Operational Excellence Business Partners to facilitate continuous improvement in safe production, cost performance, and the journey to becoming the best operator (RTSPS). The ideal candidate is energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and eager to develop their career within a leading organization.
What the role entails
Reporting to the Coordinator - Operational Excellence, you will:
Provide strategic, tactical, and technical support, training, and coaching to operations and support teams in identifying, scoping, and executing business improvement projects
Assist in deploying business improvement methods and tools aligned with the business improvement strategy/plan
Lead area-wide business improvement projects, including Six Sigma projects, Task Forces, Kaizens, 5S events, or other Lean initiatives
Support leaders in deploying best practices (RTSPS - best operator) and provide mindset & behavior support
Note:This position is based in Labrador City. Relocation assistance is provided if applicable.
About you
To succeed, you will have:
A commitment to safety for yourself and others
Experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies (e.g., Kaizens, Root Cause Analysis, Rapid Problem Solving, DMAIC)
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams, facilitating problem solving and conflict resolution among stakeholders
Strong communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent verbal and written communication, time management, and facilitation skills
Proficient data analytics and visualization skills, including Microsoft Office and relevant platforms
Assets include:
A tertiary qualification in Industrial Engineering or a related field
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification (completed or in progress)
Experience in mining, processing, or heavy industry

We are a leading North American producer and exporter of high-quality iron ore pellets and concentrates, with operations including a mine with five pits, a concentrator, and a pelletizing plant near Labrador City, NL. We also operate a wholly owned 418 km railway (QNS&L) linking our Labrador operations to port facilities in Sept-Iles.
