Join INRS!

Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is a human-scale university-level institution dedicated to research and graduate training. Our organization, with its 700 employees, is dedicated to supporting innovation and excellence since 1969, in a dynamic and multidisciplinary work environment.

Do you want your research to make a difference? Join an institution that stands out. More than just a university: a community!

As a member of INRS, you will contribute to its unique mission of research and graduate training directed towards serving Quebec society.

Position Summary

INRS is a university-level research and graduate training establishment. Ranked first in Canada for research intensity (grant total per professor), INRS brings together 170 professors and about 800 students and postdoctoral fellows in four centres located in Quebec City, Montreal, Varennes and Laval.

INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre (ETE) is situated in the heart of Quebec City, with major research facilities located in the Quebec Metro High-Tech Park. The Centre brings together a total of 37 faculty members, 100 research and research support staff, 33 administrative employees and 220 graduate students. Total operating revenues, including institutional and external revenues, amount to approximately $18 million per year.

The Centre invites applications for a position of Professor in water treatment. This position is a continuation of the Centre's longstanding contribution and recognized expertise in the field of water sciences, and more specifically in treatment and decontamination processes. Safeguarding the resource is dependent on effective and innovative treatment methods and technologies, responding to emerging issues while ensuring equitable and quality access to populations. This position is perfectly in line with the objectives of the scientific program of the Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre and INRS.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

More specifically, you will assume the following tasks and responsibilities:

Propose applied and fundamental research in water, wastewater and industrial effluent treatment to meet emerging needs in this field.

Develop, in line with the Centre's scientific priorities, a multidisciplinary research program focusing on:

The use of chemical or electrochemical processes;

The improvement of such processes and their performance in numerous applications, including the treatment of drinking water and wastewater, the disinfection and deodorization of industrial effluents, the reduction of pollution loads, the elimination of persistent organic compounds, and the extraction and recovery of metals;

The development and fine-tuning of innovative processes for new cutting-edge applications.

Acquire funding for your research and laboratory activities, and contribute to the Centre's shared infrastructure, through external grants from public and private organizations, or in partnership with industry.

Train students and research staff through mentoring and teaching, notably as part of the Centre's graduate programs.

Engage in the activities of the Centre and INRS, in particular through participation in scientific activities, internal service and the Professors' Assembly of the Eau Terre Environnement Centre.

Contribute to the national and international influence of INRS and to the vitality of the Eau Terre Environnement Centre through scientific programming.

The above list of tasks and responsibilities is summary and indicative.
