We seek a positive, forward-thinking Risk and Governance Manager to join the Technology Strategic Initiatives and Risk team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent collaboration, interpersonal, communication skills, and relevant expertise.
This role reports directly to the Head of Technology Strategic Initiatives and Risk and is pivotal within IT's first line risk and control team, fostering a strong risk culture across the department.
The position supports the Tech Strategic Initiatives and Risk Lead in managing daily operations of the first line risk and control team, including leadership of 5-6 employees, 2-3 contractors, and oversight of consulting support. The team's scope includes financial control assessments, reporting, MI, and risk generalists supporting broader objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead governance and reporting for the Office of the CIO, including financial control testing for external audits and risk and control team reporting.
- Manage workforce planning annually, including BAU activities, reporting, engagement models, and process improvements.
- Oversee financial control assessments, MI/reporting for IT leadership, and preparation for risk and control meetings attended by the CIO.
- Develop operational and workforce MI to support leadership, including process improvement initiatives.
- Drive process improvements within the risk and control team.
- Prepare risk papers for management committees and the Board on IT and Cyber risks.
- Lead training, development, and continuous improvement initiatives for the team.
- Participate in and lead small to medium process reengineering projects.
- Ensure personal development objectives are met and maintain a personal development plan.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to 4-5 team members to achieve high performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; insurance industry experience is a plus.
- College Diploma or equivalent experience in insurance.
- 3-5 years in risk and control roles within technology or Cyber domains.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build effective relationships.
- Strong analytical, project management, leadership, and mentoring skills.
- Broad understanding of P&C insurance.
- Self-starter with quick learning ability and problem-solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills to engage management at various levels.
- Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and communicate insights.
- Strategic and critical thinking skills.
- Experience with GRC risk management tools.
