About the role
Our client is a global e-commerce leader that connects millions of buyers and sellers in more than 190 markets around the world, and we are looking for a highly skilled individual contributor with deep expertise in backend engineering to join their team. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience designing and building large-scale, distributed web applications and can guide end-to-end architecture, including both backend systems and frontend integration. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-impact solutions in a collaborative and agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Architects, Product Managers, BAs, QA Engineers, and Operations to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions.
- Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle:
design, development, testing, release, bug fixing, documentation, and support in an Agile environment. - Use tools such as JIRA, Git, CI/CD, and internal systems for task management and feature delivery.
- Evaluate storage and computer needs, define domain services, and recommend appropriate technologies.
- Design and implement scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend solutions using eBay internal and third-party libraries/frameworks.
- Participate in technical design reviews, provide feedback, and mentor junior engineers.
- Support roadmap planning and operational excellence by implementing automation, monitoring, and performance tuning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 12+ years of experience in backend development with Java and distributed web systems (for Senior position); 8+ years (for mid-senior level roles).
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Excellent object-oriented programming skills in Java (or similar OO languages).
- Experience with unit and integration testing using frameworks like Karate.
- Deep knowledge of both relational and NoSQL databases, caching, asynchronous workflows, and messaging systems.
- Skilled in debugging, bug triaging, logging/monitoring, and performance optimization (application and database-level).
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs, OAuth, JSON, and SOA standards.
- Exposure to frontend technologies and architectural patterns is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
