Community Adult Learning Liaison

Lethbridge Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, positive, thoughtful Community Adult Learning Liaison who will provide the Read On Adult Learning and Literacy program's diverse and valued students and volunteers with the best learning experience in Lethbridge. The top priorities in this role include a passion for helping adult learners achieve their goals and taking part in fostering a supportive team environment.

This is a term appointment ending by October 30, 2025, with the possibility of extension.

Your average day at LPL includes:

• Working as a team to create adult literacy programs and services.

• Assist in planning, developing and evaluating literacy programs for adults.

• Organize and deliver workshops and training as required.

• Recruit, interview and orient potential volunteers.

• Recruit, interview and assess students, match student with tutor, and design and monitor student's program.

• Provide ongoing support for tutors, students, and other volunteers.

• Maintain applicable procedures, reporting and policies.

• Create and update promotional program material in print and online as needed.

• Research and maintain an awareness of current trends and challenges using a variety of sources.

• Participate in workshops and training as required, to meet grant requirements and for general professional development.

Read On grant and funding responsibilities:

• Monitor, collect and report required statistics and other evaluative information.

• Assist in completing and maintaining evaluations, reports, and records as required internally, for external reporting, and established best practices.

• Assist in completing funding and grant applications and reports as required.

Developing and maintaining relationships with related organizations:

• Participate in relevant community initiatives, projects and committees.

• Obtain information about related resources to share with students, volunteers and library staff.

Collection development:

• Assists with collection maintenance, monitoring collection use, and providing input into development of literacy collections.

• Provide input and support based on subject expertise into the development of library collections in general.

Other

• Assist in providing support and training for staff, public, and related organizations for adult literacy learning, and in the use of library resources and tools as needed.

• Participates in library-wide committees, teams and projects.

• Other duties as required.

What you need to bring to this position:

• Post-secondary education, and related experience in English language and literacy learning.

• Related experience working with designated populations is preferred.

• TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) courses or other training in English language and literacy learning is an asset.

• Experience in training adults with a wide range of skills/backgrounds and working with volunteers.

• General knowledge of public library and literacy learning materials and services.

• Experience working or volunteering with adults facing barriers to accessing traditional literacy services or education.

• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English and demonstrate good listening skills.

• Demonstrated decision making skills and the ability to exercise good judgment in the best interests of Lethbridge Public Library at all times.

• Demonstrated proficiency with general office computer use and basic troubleshooting.

• Must treat student, customer and volunteer information in keeping with privacy legislation and library policy.

• Demonstrated commitment to learn and develop professionally.

• Knowledge of and commitment to intellectual freedom.

• Demonstrated decision making skills and the ability to exercise good judgment in the best interests of Lethbridge Public Library at all times.

Hours of work and location:

75 hours bi-weekly, including day, evening and weekend shifts.

Working at the Main Branch: Adult Literacy and Learning (Read On), and reporting to Manager: Community Advancement.

Salary Range: $28.17 - $31.33 hourly as per current C.U.P.E. Local 70 (Library Employees) Collective Agreement (under review).

Note: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Police Information Check prior to start date.
